A Letter to Prospective Members
We want to tell you know about Impact100 Philadelphia, a collaborative and forward-thinking nonprofit organization that brings together individual women in order to make large, collective grants. Since its founding in 2008, Impact100 Philadelphia has awarded more than $3.5 million in grants to nonprofits in the Philadelphia region.
The goal of Impact100 Philadelphia is to provide high-impact grants that reach underserved populations, raise the profile of smaller organizations, and highlight unmet needs in the Philadelphia region. By pooling our contributions to make very large donations to nonprofit organizations, collectively chosen by the membership, we can make an impact not possible as separate individuals.
Here’s how Impact100 Philadelphia works:
- Impact100 members are women, age 21 years or older, who donate $1,150 by November 15. Of that amount, $1,000 goes straight into the pool of grant funds for the coming year. Women who are 35 or younger may join as Young Philanthropists by donating $575. This is a one-year commitment only; continued membership is an annual decision.
- Together, members pool their funds to award grants each year to important and vital charitable organizations in the Philadelphia region.
- Grant finalists are determined through a detailed process of proposal review and evaluation by members, and the grant recipients are chosen by a vote of the membership.
Focus areas for grants include Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Family, and Health & Wellness. As a member, you may be involved as much as you would like. If you simply want to write a check and cast your vote, that’s a valuable and meaningful way to participate. If you’d like to participate more actively, there are several ways, such as serving on a Focus Area Committee to review proposals, or volunteering on a board committee.
Demographically we are a diverse group, with members who live in all five counties we fund, as well as South Jersey. A few members participate long-distance. We span seven decades from the age of 21 to the late 80s. Professionally, we are bankers and lawyers, nurses and doctors, artists and educators, nonprofit managers, stay-at-home mothers, retirees, and businesswomen of all kinds.
Our membership closes annually on November 15 but it reopens immediately for the next grants cycle, and we always seek to welcome and engage new members. If you would like to make a one-year commitment to join Impact100 Philadelphia and participate in the grants to be awarded in June 2022, please go to our Join/Donate page no later than November 15 to make your tax-deductible donation.
