We’re celebrating a Decade of Giving with our 10th cohort of finalist organizations: Taller Puertorriqueño, Hopeworks ‘N Camden, Philadelphia Orchard Project, Nationalities Service Center, and Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly (CARIE). On June 4, at our Annual Meeting and Impact Engagement Fair, these organizations had the opportunity to present to an audience of 300 plus women. Our members voted to award three $100,000 Core Mission Grants. Two organizations received unrestricted operating grants of $43,500.

Core Mission Grants of $100,000Nationalities Service Center was founded almost 100 years ago, to teach immigrant women English and provide a path to citizenship. Their services have expanded to include refugee resettlement, employment services, trauma survival counseling for victims of human trafficking and domestic violence, health care and family strengthening services. They currently assist immigrants from over 100 different countries.
The Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly (CARIE) is committed improving the quality of health care available to senior citizens in our region, especially those who are vulnerable due to illness, poverty or lack of social supports, and their families in Southeastern Pennsylvania. CARIE works to gives elders access to the advocacy and assistance needed to receive timely and appropriate levels of health care services to maintain independence and continued ability to live at home
Hopeworks is a holistic training program in Camden, New Jersey. Their mission is to use technology, entrepreneurship, and healing to help change lives. Hopeworks engages with Camden teenagers and young adults by providing intense information technology training and internships, and concentrated emotional, academic and social support so they may successfully compete in a growing Camden employment market.
Unrestricted Operating Grants of $43,500Taller Puertorriqueño, as a finalist for a core mission grant. Their mission is to preserve, develop and promote Puerto Rican arts and culture, strengthen the Latino community through the arts and support increased understanding and appreciation of other Spanish cultures. Taller Puertorriqueño, which is located in one of Philadelphia’s poorest neighborhoods, delivers a broad variety of visual arts and music programming for elementary, secondary and college students and adults.
Philadelphia Orchard Project (POP) mission is to plant and support orchards throughout the city. Some of POP’s programs include planting neighborhood orchards with community groups, fruit gleaning and training students and local residents to become good stewards of their neighborhoods. POP has created partnerships with other West Philadelphia nonprofits and the Philadelphia Horticultural Society to expand their community footprint
