It has been a season of remarkable growth, exciting milestones and, most importantly, more children sleeping safely and comfortably in beds of their own at One House At A Time (OHAAT) and its Beds for Kids program.
OHAAT’s mission is to help families currently lacking resources to establish a self-sufficient life. Specifically, they provide beds, bedding, stuffed animals, books, toothbrushes, other toiletries and period products to children, teens and young adults ages 2 through 20 who do not have an adequate place of their own to sleep.
In 2025, 3,523 individuals were served by the Beds for Kids program. 1,626 families were impacted in 113 zip codes. 3,502 volunteer hours were completed by 601 volunteers. OHAAT worked with 407 referral partners and 113 business and community groups.
OHAAT has recently moved into a brand-new, 10,000 square foot warehouse which is right across the street from their previous location. The new warehouse provides improved office space and an additional loading dock. The new expanded space gives OHAAT room to receive, sort and distribute more beds and bedding packages than ever before.
Referrals for the Beds for Kids program continue to rise, reflecting the reality that so many Philadelphia families are still struggling to meet the cost of basic needs. There has been particular growth in referrals from the Philadelphia School District. Impact100’s grant has been instrumental in helping OHAAT keep pace with that demand. Every referral represents a child who has been sleeping on the floor or sharing a bed. Every bed package delivered changes that.
This year, OHAAT expanded its standard bedding package to include period products. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Families have shared the heartfelt feedback about how much this addition means to them. It is a small change with a big impact and a reflection of OHAAT’s ongoing commitment to listening to the families they serve and meeting their needs with dignity.
OHAAT has also launched a Youth Ambassador Committee, bringing young people (middle and high schoolers) to the table to participate in program design and advocacy. OHAAT believes the voices of young people are essential to building a program that truly serves them. OHAAT is also currently recruiting for two Summer Intern positions. If you know a motivated college student looking to gain meaningful nonprofit experience this summer, encourage them to apply!
OHAAT’s executive director, Kate Fay, said, “None of this would be possible without partners like Impact100 who believe that every child deserves a safe, comfortable place to sleep. Your investment is helping us grow our capacity, deepen our impact and serve Philadelphia’s most vulnerable families with care and dignity.”
OHAAT invites you to check out the new warehouse and office space at their Open House on Saturday, April 25th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, at 421 Pike Road, Unit 1, Huntingdon Valley, 19006.
