On the evening of Monday, January 28, 70 new and returning members of Impact100 Philadelphia’s Focus Area Committees ventured into the bitter cold and gathered at Friends Central Upper School for a training sponsored by the Grants Planning Committee. The training began with a presentation by Toby Gang and Renee Applegate, Grants Co- Chairs. They were joined by other seasoned Impact100 Philadelphia members, who thoroughly explained the grants review process, our funding requirements and priorities, and the role of the Financial Review Panel in evaluating grant proposals. All of the presentations described both the art and science of document review and the collective decision-making process.
After the large group presentations, each Focus Area Committee chair led a workshop with her members to review and discuss a mock proposal. This exercise introduced new members to our full proposal format and gave them practice spotting some of the issues that arise in reviewing grant proposals.
The Grants Planning Committee is committed to on-going training, so we can meet our responsibilities to the entire Impact100 Philadelphia membership and our nonprofit applicants.
