Urban Tree Connection’s mission is to assist urban, low-income communities in revitalizing their neighborhoods, transforming abandoned open spaces and creating safe and functional places that inspire and promote positive human interaction. With Impact100 funding, Urban Tree Connection worked with partners on Urban Greening Projects in neighborhoods of West Philadelphia to revitalize and create sustainable gardens to serve low-income individuals through food production, sales and educational programs. It created new jobs in farming and food distribution, produced food, and serves as a model for the field. The program includes a low-income community sponsored agriculture (CSA) project, local farm stands, sales to local markets and a senior delivery route managed by neighborhood youth.
